How to Avoid Wedding Dress Neurosis
In our perfectionist culture, one word jumps out about brides to be and the search for the perfect wedding dress: NEUROSIS. Here's how to find a dreamy dress without going nuts.
1. Give yourself plenty of time
Unless you are buying from a discount store, you won't find your style and size in hanging stock. All designer bridal dresses are sold of a pattern - the salon sample. Delivery time will take from six weeks to six months. Many women buy the dress first to get this chore out of the way as well as establish the tone for the rest of the celebration.
2. Be comfortable in your skin
There is no dream wedding dress for the woman who is unhappy with how she looks. Lips to hips, being critical of oneself is the perfect set up for neurosis. When you are focusing on your flaws, or trying to hide them, nothing will work. So before you begin shopping, take lots of deep breaths and give that reflection in the mirror lots of acceptance.
3. Go with an open mind
The average bride looks at 100 dresses before she makes up her mind. 100 dresses. In many cases, she has a specific look in mind. Fashion is all about revealing the inner you. Having a mental picture that you can't articulate, as in "I'll know it when I see it," can send you around a mental bend. Be prepared to try on lots of dresses in a wide range of styles regardless of the price. Who knows? Maybe there's an inner you even you haven't met yet.
4. If you're buying a bargain online, know your measurements.
Forget what size you wear. Sizing compared to street clothes runs small. Sizing from one designer to the next is not standard. Better brands run especially small. It's ridiculous. In the full service salon, a professional consultant will measure you so your dress will the right size. Then it will be tailored to fit perfectly. If you want to take advantage of online bargains or sample sales, know your measurements. Pick a dress bigger than you are and have it tailored to fit. More tips on fitting here.
5. Plan and budget for alterations
Yes, even when you order your designer bridal gown from the manufacturer, you will need alterations. Simply put, no body is perfect.
6. Relax and enjoy the trip
Remember that your wedding day is a celebration and the best party you'll ever give. The dress you wear is merely a reflection of your happiness, not who you are. Weddings, like life are a journey, not a destination.

Brides, Can You Spare $20,000 for a Dress?

Elizabeth Fillmore puts on a brave face in a shrinking economy. Despite near double digit unemployment nationwide, she's offering a style named "Medea" for a meer $19,580.
Color me "cheap," but there have to be better uses for $20K - an African safari or co-sponsorship of a Habitat for Humanity house, perhaps?
Oh well, "chacun a son gout," which is how the French say, whatever floats your wakeboard boat.

Meet Maggie Sottero
Maggie Sottero Bridal is one of these designers.
Maggie Sottero is among the most recognized bridal gown designers in the world. The company has been a recipient of a number of bridal industry awards, including six DEBI Awards, nine Desert Rose Awards, two DIVA Awards, and three Dallas Rose Awards, as well as numerous additional nominations.
Media hype aside, we note that three themes consistently distinguish Maggie Sottero bridal dresses from other designs: bold color, frank sex appeal and utter femininity.
Here are three dresses that recently caught our eye.

Maggie Sottero Ivana
Nobody dares to dream a bridal dress in color like Maggie Sottero.
From sultry "Ivana" ripe with burgundy touches to stunning "Aurora" rich in frosted brown, Maggie Sottero consistently extends the couture palette for brides to be.

Maggie Sottero Suzanne
Maggie Sottero bridal dresses stretch the limits of sex appeal from the faintly sensuous to the boldly provocative.
The strapless bustier bodice of "Suzanne" is a gorgeous example.
(This regular feature of Maggie Sottero bridal dresses also helps ensure a wonderful fit through the bust and waist with the need for less tailoring.)

Maggie Sottero Tuscana Vidal
Even when pushing the limits of just how much skin a bride should reveal, Maggie Sottero styles remain utterly feminine.
Like Tuscana Vidal, they are graceful not gauche.
